Kym Moore (Director/Multidisciplinary Theater Maker/ Educator) is co-founder/co-artistic director of Antigravity Performance Project and Professor of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies at Brown University. Moore’s directing style is grounded, yet imaginative and encompasses a wide range of genres and style of performance. Some of her work can be categorized as “Afro-Futurist” but she is not bound by definitions. Kym seeks to explore all dimensions of theatrical language. Kym has a deep interest in String Theory, intersectionality, and Quantum Physics which shape her approach to crafting performance production. Her aesthetic is designed to feed all of the senses, she works tirelessly to create a multisensory experience for the audience that is hard to forget. Kym is the proud recipient of a Pen and Brush Inc. award for her play, The Date. Recent Brown University theatre credits include: Sonic Life of a Giant Tortoise, By The Way, Meet Vera Stark, Hype Hero, Passing Strange, Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, and Pippin, which was recognized by BroadwayWorld.com as one of the most “whacky and innovative” interpretations of that musical worldwide. Kym is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, National Association of Acting Teachers, Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, and formerly the National Theatre Conference. She has taught acting and directing at numerous institutions including: The Juilliard School, Emory University, Georgetown, Notre Dame University, Dartmouth College, Swarthmore College, Sarah Lawrence College, SUNY Purchase, Hampshire College, University of Oklahoma, and Rhode Island School of Design. Current projects include Do Eye Know You? (Kym Moore w/Antigravity Performance Project) formerly Time’s Up!, a transmedia performance installation has been supported with residencies at the CCAM/Yale University, The Odyssey Theater/Los Angeles, UCLA and California State University/Long Beach, as well as funding support from the MAP Fund, The Solomon Award, Creative Arts Council, and private donors. This spring she will direct Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea by Julia Izumi at Williams College and she recently joined the collaborative team of Zora On My Mind, a new musical exploring the forces that shape the lives of African-American women Then and Now. Lead artists Anita Gonzalez(Book) and Diana Lawrence (Composer) are devising this new work in association with the Racial Justice Institute at Georgetown University.
